No conversation is more top-of-mind for today’s students, business and marketing leaders than the impact of social media on the changing face of business in this tough economy.

Ever since the invention of social technologies, such as blogs, social networking sites like Facebook, and user-generated sites like YouTube and numerous other online communities now common on the Web, is making a dramatic impact on the way many organizations are conducting their business. Social networking has become a part of our daily routine and is a trend that will only continue to evolve as we grow old.

Michael Yoder, of LinkedUp Grand Rapids, spoke to a room full of GVSU students and faculty on Tuesday November 29th, on Social Media Strategy and Engagement. This was the first in a series of events hosted by the SoC HOPP Event Series. (School of Communications Hear Other Professors/ Professionals)

Since March of 2008, Michael has taken the LinkedIn group, LinkedUp Grand Rapids from just a few people to over 8,000 members- all by using social media.  “The power is no longer in the hands of the corporations but, in the people,” Yoder said.
