Grand Valley State University’s School of Communications is hosting local journalism veterans to speak about the changes in journalism.

Dan Gaydou, MLive Media Group President, and Paul Keep, MLive Media Group Executive Editor of Print will give a speech titled “Changes in Journalism.” The speech will take place on Monday, February 20, 2012, from 6:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at Grand Valley’s Loosemore Auditorium on the downtown Grand Rapids campus. The event is free and open to the public. Free parking for guests is available in the Fulton Lot.

Consumption of traditional readership on the decline, the Grand Rapids Press made the decision to move content to an online medium called ‘Mlive Media Group,’ which has raised questions on the future of journalism in West Michigan.

Gaydou and Keep’s speech is part of a series of events the School of Communications is sponsoring known as “SOC HOPP”: School of Communications, Hear Other Professors and Professionals. The purpose is to provide more interaction among students, faculty and the community on common communication subjects.

Future SoC HOPP events include:

  • March 1: John Truscott– former spokesperson for Governor Engler, discussing political communication. Cook-DeVos Health Science Center, 119 – Hager Auditorium. 6:00 – 7:30 p.m.
