SoC professors participate in annual sabbatical showcase

At the most recent annual Sabbatical Showcase, three SoC professors presented their projects.

Professor of Journalism, Dr. Vandana Pednekar-Magal and Assistant Professor of Broadcasting, Keith Oppenheim discussed film and how transnational communities in Grand Rapids use media and communications. Their presentation also covered how emerging media have transformed the immigrant experience.

Associate Professor of Film and Video Production, Kim Roberts, presented her project on Transmedia. Transmedia is the practice of telling stories across multiple outlets such as Internet and film. Roberts created the online TV Show ‘Feel Like You Belong’ as part of her sabbatical project.

Associate Professor of Theatre, Dr. Jim Bell, wrote a new play for his sabbatical. It’s a meta play, or play about a play. The project can be used to teach theatre students but Bell also hopes it will be a staged play at some time.
