On Monday, October 13th at 6 p.m. there will be a premiere screening of the documentary “From Somewhere Else: Media and Transnational Communities” in the Seidman College of Business in 1008 Room B. The documentary was created by Vandana Pednekar-Magal, a journalism professor at Grand Valley, and Keith Oppenheim a former GVSU broadcasting professor.

The documentary is about immigrants in the United States and how they use communication technologies to stay connected with cultural, political and economic activities back in their home country. The film features interviews with members of many international communities in Grand Rapids and how these immigrants experience life here as well as from somewhere else.

After the viewing of the film there will be an open discussion with the film producers, Pednekar-Magal and Oppenheim, which will then be followed with a reception. The premiere is free and open to everyone.
